Club drive, College, Catastrophe
It´s sophomore year, time to get serious about the future. I went to my first college meeting today, San Diego University. I must admit, I was impressed, my dad doesn´t want me to go because apparently ¨too many sailors and marines live there¨ ah, my dad and his retired navy humor. Who cares if I fall in love with a sailor? Any way, back on the path of relevance, no matter what college I attend there's still one fatal flaw... I have NO IDEA what I want to study!!!! I'm good at a few things, but I don't feel like there's anything I'm "exceptionally" good at, and Lord knows I don't really have a passion for anything. Is that an awful thing to say? Is it pitiful that I'm not passionate about anything; out of all the hobbies, skills, professions, and pastimes there isn't a single thing that I absolutely LOVE to do? I want a career that's like oxygen to me, where every minute without it I suffocate. I've heard it said that the American Dream is the marriage of your passion and your profession, but how can you choose a profession without a passion? The more I study career choices the more I find that the two are almost directly related...or is it inversely related? Well, there goes my career as a math or science teacher, I don't even know the difference between "directly" and "inversely", or maybe I do but I'm just too scatterbrained to use the words in a sentence. If being scatterbrained is the case then I defiantly couldn't hold a job in management, or anything that requires intense focus. I have NO focus, I'm suppose to be doing math homework at this very moment, but instead I'm ranting in a blog. Oh my gosh, what was I talking about again? Oh! College, impossible, absolutely impossible. And then there's club drive, the mini "Rush Week" of my high school. It's one of the biggest, most crucial moments of the year. Club drive isn't just deciding what club you want to join. When you join a club you're choosing to work with, eat with, and most importantly be ASSOCIATED with a certain group of people. You're establishing your legacy! Club drive is everything, and just like college, the club I'm joining: UNDECIDED. What I want to be known for, just like my major: UNDECLARED. How can the daughter of two middle class, academically accomplished, financially empowered, successful African-American parents be left with so little direction?
